Keeping a journal on a computer should be as easy as falling off a log, but many applications tend to complicate things with advanced options and proprietary formats. Fortunately, this can not be said about Journee. In fact, it's the exact opposite. The application lets you create daily journal entries and fill them up without any kind of distractions. It's the ideal tool if you're not interested in anything else besides writing your journal entries.

Journee is available for Windows and Linux and it is offered completely free of charge. The software can be installed in no time, without making any complicated configurations. It doesn't use a significant amount of memory or processing power and it doesn't require any special tools or services.

The software comes with a minimalistic user interface. It consists of a calendar, a search bar and, of course, a text editing area. You can write your journal entry right away, without having to click anything along the way. The current date is selected by default, but you can select a different one yourself.

The application automatically creates a new entry when you select a date in the calendar. You can simply pick a date and start writing. It's as simple as that. There are no Save options or anything else you have to think about. If you wish to return to an older journal entry, you can just select its date, but a more efficient approach is to use the built-in search function. You can type any keyword or expression and the software will immediately find all entries that contain that keyword or expression.

Besides Journee's simplicity, another advantage is the fact that it makes the journal entries easy to access, even if the software is no longer installed. It stores the entries as separate plain text (.txt) files in a local folder, which you have to select when you run the application for the first time. To make them easy to distinguish, Journee names the files using the date on which you wrote those entries.

It may not have flashy features, but what Journee has to offer gives you the possibility of writing, storing and organizing your journal entries more efficiently than with any other tool.

Pros

You can write journal entries quickly, without any distractions. The search function can locate any entries that contain a word or phrase you specify. Journal entries are stored automatically as separate TXT files.

Cons

The software's simplicity doesn't allow for attaching images or links.
